CHECK OUT MY WORK
I'm a versatile writer.
Read a sample or two from each category. In most cases, more are available upon request.

I've written features stories in both magazine and newspaper formats.
Feature writing requires strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of one's audience, and a knack for creative storytelling.
I enjoy seeking out fascinating people and events, then sharing their stories in a compelling manner.

I have written news stories for the Truman State University Index and theSoutheast Missourian newspaper. I've written about local politics, crime and fire, city administration, and written in-depth investigative pieces.
I appreciate news writing for its objectivity and mission to hold public officials accountable and inform the community of important events.

My poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction have been published in literary journals.
I enjoy the freedom of a blank page, and I appreciate writing done for sake of human expression.

I serve as Editor-In-Chief of my University's weekly, student-produced newspaper.
I lead a general staff of 65 and an editorial staff of 12. I am part editor, part teacher, part writer, and part manager; I serve as the final read for all pages; I oversee all content selection, editing, design, photography, distribution, and any functions necessary to run the newspaper.
I have previously served as Managing Editor, Opinions & Editorials Editor, Copy Editor, and Columnist.

I have engaged in faculty-mentored research at Truman State University, and I completed a historical research project while at Missouri Farm Bureau.
I enjoy qualitative research because it allows me to dig deeply for information about a topic that interests me to discover long-lost stories.
Just as in journalism, it requires careful source selection and an understanding of one's audience.

I've written a variety of editorial content for the Truman State University Index and for Missouri Farm Bureau.
Editorial writing takes a stand, often on a current issue.
This requires research, an understanding of current events, and an ability to distill complex issues into easily digestible information.
